Scenic Wallpaper installed ultrasuede to the walls of the living room in the Park Avenue duplex maisonette of Renee and Mark Rockefeller, an intimate yet airy apartment in one of the great Rosario Candela buildings of the city, and the former residence of writer William F. Buckley. The project was executed in collaboration with New York architect and decorator Daniel Romualdez, who got the inspiration for the ultrasuede walls from a room he had seen in Paris in which the crown, the walls and all the moldings were covered in velvet.

Mark Rockefeller is an entrepreneur and a fourth-generation member of the Rockefeller family, the younger son Nelson Rockefeller, who served as both the Governor of New York and Vice President of the United States.

Renee, a former attorney, is also known for her philanthropic activities, especially in public arts.

Interestingly, the centerpiece of the suede-covered living room, the Picasso tapestry of “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon,” was made specifically for Mark’s father, who was one of one of Picasso’s most and supportive patrons. The painting had hung at MoMA since the late 1930s, and Nelson Rockefeller commissioned this version in as part of a series in 1955. Picasso selected the wool tufts himself.
