About Us

John Nalewaja is a master paperhanger and has been installing and restoring wallpaper for more than 30 years, specializing in scenic and panoramic wallpaper for the last 20 years. John has worked with the most high-end wallpapers and has developed special techniques that ensure a polished and professional installation every time. John has trained his wallpapering assistants and artists to be painstaking in their attention to detail. 

In addition to helping clients plan and layout new scenic and panoramic wallpapers, John and his assistants will also remove, restore and reinstall wallpaper, whether in the same location or in a new location. Examples of past work are shown here.

Jim Francis, formerly of the New-York Historical Society, specializes in the Decorative Arts aspects and history of the papers. Jim annually vets or judges the Winter Antiques Show at the Armory in New York City for the authenticity of antique wallpapers and panoramics. Jim advises clients who are planning new jobs and measures each space and works with wallpaper showrooms to lay out custom fabrications. 

John has wallpapered thousands and thousands of rooms, but services go beyond straight installation of wallpaper, to include restoration and preservation of rare and historic papers. John and Jim have worked with many antique papers and have trained their assistants to implement best practices to restore valuable and historic papers so that they can be reinstalled and enjoyed for many more years to come. 

Based in New York, they work with both national and international clients. In 1999 work took them to Peru, in 2000 to Panama, in 2002 to Mexico and in 2006 to Helsinki, Finland for the American Embassy, as well as the Florida Governor's Mansion. 

Clients include the American Embassy in Helsinki Finland, the Angolan Mission to the UN, Bergdorf Goodman department store, Cartier, Inc., the Connecticut State Capitol Building, the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum, the Florida Governor’s Mansion, the French Consulate in Boston, Gracie Mansion, the Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia, the Hearst Estate (Wyntoon) in California, the New-York Historical Society, the Peruvian Mission to the U.N., Smith-Barney Headquarters, the Spence School, and the Consul General  from the United Kingdom, as well as dozens of private individuals.
