Scenic Wallpaper was contacted to install a custom deGournay wallpaper that joined together two of their different patterns on the upper and lower levels of a Park Avenue Penthouse, including the curving staircase.

The living room on the upper level was covered in a deGournay chinoiserie floral pattern, with the tree and butterflies on the staircase gradually fading out to butterflies only, which filled the lower level.

It was an interesting use of the wallpaper and mixing the two patterns in a way that felt natural.

The wallpaper was custom tailored to fit the space, and Scenic Wallpaper did all of the measuring, scale elevations, and the scale floor plan to sign off on the plans for de Gournay’s fabrication of the wallpaper.

The dyed silk ground of this wallpaper is particularly delicate and difficult to handle in longs strips, such as on the staircase. No water or paste can come in contact with the surface of the paper during installation or the silk will be stained.

As you can see in the photos, we covered one jib door and two bifold doors with the wallpaper as well, wrapping the pattern around the edges.
