Scenic Wallpaper was contacted by a decorating firm in Boston for a client who had inherited family heirloom screens with antique Chinese wallpaper.
Original screens with antique wallpaper
Back side of screens
Although the screens were in very poor shape, they were carefully packed and shipped to us in New York and we undertook to remove the extremely fragile paper from its original stretched screens to reapply them to a more stable surface and restore them. This was one of the most challenging restorations that we have undertaken.

Once the screens were applied to a stable surface, we cleaned and restored the paper and filled in missing sections as necessary.

The village scene was turned into a five panel folding screen, while the more traditional chinoiserie birds and flower panels were turned into individual artwork to hang on the wall.
